{S:Page Header} {toc} ===1 - Introduction=== The '''Goat Details''' page is the heart of the {S:SiteName} application. It is just a click away from any page in the website where a {S:Registered Name} is displayed. On this page you can view all of the specific details of any given animal: Pedigree, Inbreeding, Linebreeding, Progeny, Raw Linear Appraisal, {S:USDA Production Evaluation} and {S:USDA Type Evaluation}. All of these will be explained in the sections below. {top} ===2 - Page Layout=== The '''Goat Details''' page has the same basic look and feel of the application but with a couple differences: * There are no filters on this page * The area below the page header (content area) is broken into 2 parts: ** A narrow left pane for navigation within the page ** The rest of the content area for displaying different views [imageauto|Goat Details Page Layout|{UP}GoatDetailPageLayout.jpg] {top} ====2.1 - Submenu==== The '''Submenu''' fills a narrow strip on the left-hand side of area below the page header. It contains a vertical menu that provides access to all the '''Views''' within this page. PTI/ETA indexes are displayed below the menu if values are available. There is also a link to print out a formatted version of the '''Goat Details'''. The '''Submenu''' may display some options as greyed-out or disabled. This means there is no data for this animal for this particular view. For example, if there is no linear history data for the current animal, the Linear History option will be disabled. Also, a progress indicator will appear in the lower part of the '''Submenu''' pane when data takes over .5 seconds to display. This will let you know that something is really going on and that you should be patient. {top} ====2.2 - Content Area==== This is the area below the page header and to the right of the '''Submenu'''. This is where '''Views''' are displayed when a '''Submenu''' item is clicked. Details are below. {top} ===3 - Views=== Each '''Submenu''' option presents a different view of data in the content area. Additionally, the view may be different depending on the sex of the animal. Details about all the views are below. {top} ====3.1 - Pedigree==== The '''Pedigree''' view is the one normally displayed after clicking a {S:Registered Name} link. Only links from the [HelpType|Type Evaluation] pages start in the '''Type Evaluation''' view. Here are the features of this view: * A 4 generation pedigree is displayed with a relationship prefix (ie S = Sire, D = Dam, DS: = Dam's Sire). * The title bar above the pedigree displays the animal's {S:Registered Name}, {S:Registration Number}, {S:Herdbook}, sex and [SuperiorGenetics|Superior Genetics]. Additionally, Polled and Black will be displayed if the animal has those traits. * If you hold your mouse over a {S:Registered Name} link, the animal's {S:Herdbook}, {S:Registration Number} and birth date are displayed. * Each {S:Registered Name} is a link to another '''Goat Detail''' page. Click the link to navigate through the pedigree. * Animal's in the pedigree that aren't in the database will display only the relationship prefix. * Polled and Black (Oberhasli and Toggenburg only) animals in the pedigree are denoted as per the Legend at the bottom of the view. ** Green - Polled ** Black - Black ** Red - Polled and Black [imageauto|Goat Detail View - Pedigree|{UP}GoatDetailViewPedigree.jpg] {top} ====3.2 - Inbreeding==== The '''Inbreeding''' view shows you the contribution of ancestors that are common to both the sire and dam's sides of the animal's pedigree. The calculation is based on common ancestors in the last 10 generations. The total inbreeding percent is listed and the top 10 individual contributors to the value are listed in descending order. For a more complete explanation of the inbreeding percentage and how it can be used in breeding management, see the [Inbreeding|Inbreeding] topic. [imageauto|Goat Details View - Inbreeding|{UP}GoatDetailViewInbreeding.jpg] {top} ====3.3 - Linebreeding==== The '''Linebreeding''' view will give you an idea of which animals are inbred the most on the current the goat. This is useful if you want to concentrate the genetics of a particular animal without using that animal directly. You might want to breed a daughter of a particular sire to a son or grandson of the same sire to concentrate the genetics of the common sire. There is also a dropdownlist on this view so you can choose the sex of the animals shown. __'''Note:'''__ The linebreeding list only shows animals that have had inbreeding percentages calcuated. This calculation happens when the '''Inbreeding''' view is activated. The top 10 contributors are saved and are used to feed the '''Linebreed''' view. For more details, see the [Linebreeding|Linebreeding] topic. [imageauto|Goat Details View - Linebreeding|{UP}GoatDetailViewLinebreeding.jpg] {top} ====3.4 - Progeny==== The '''Progeny''' view shows all offspring of the current animal. If the option is originally greyed out, that is an indication that there are no progeny. If there are more than 20 progeny, the paging navigation control is displayed under the returned records. The following columns are displayed for '''Progeny''': {| border="1" ! Column Name !! Notes |- | Name || This is the {S:Registered Name}. Click the name to navigate to individual goat details. |- | Reg # || The {S:Registration Number}. This number is a unique identifier. |- | Herdbook || The {S:Herdbook} to which this goat belongs. |- | Breed || The [DairyGoatBreeds|Dairy Goat Breed] to which this goat belongs. |- | Sex || The goat gender, M = Buck, F = Doe. |- | DOB || The date of birth. |- | Eval || This column signifies whether this goat has {S:USDA Production Evaluation} and/or {S:USDA Type Evaluation}. The values can be blank (no evaluations), '''P''' (production evaluation) and/or '''T''' (type evaluation). Goats with indicators in this column have production testing and/or linear appraisal in their backgrounds. |- | IsPolled || Is this a polled (naturally hornless) animal. |- | IsBlack || Is this a black Oberhasli or Toggenburg. |} [imageauto|Goat Detail View - Progeny|{UP}GoatDetailViewProgeny.jpg] ====3.5 - Linear History==== The '''Linear History''' view will be enabled only for does that have been linear appraised since 2004. The results displayed are the "raw" linear scores for each of the 13 traits for each appraisal year with the latest record listed first. The trait codes are explained in the legend below. You can visit the [LinearAppraisal|Linear Appraisal] topic for more information on the program. [imageauto|Goat Detail View - Linear History|{UP}GoatDetailViewLinearHistory.jpg] {top} ====3.6 - USDA Data==== The '''USDA Data''' submenu item is not actually a view but a link to the AIPL USDA website record for the current animal. The USDA record will open in a new browser window. You will be able to view basic animal information (sire, dam, birthdate, etc.) and production records for does that have been on test. {top} ====3.7 - Production Eval==== The '''Production Eval''' view will shows details of the USDA production evaluation for the current animal. The results are different for bucks and does. Buck evaluations are based on daughter records while doe evaluations are based on their own records as well as records of progeny and relatives. For a full explanation of production evaluations see the [ProductionEvaluation|USDA Production Evaluation] topic. In the returned data for both bucks and does you will see any SG designations, the registry/herdbook, a variety of [PTA|PTA] values, reliability and percentile rank. The buck production evaluation includes additional data on number of herds, daughters and lactations while the doe production evaluation includes average lactation information and various [PPA|PPA] values. __'''Buck Production Evaluation'''__ [imageauto|Goat Detail View - Production Evaluation (Bucks)|{UP}GoatDetailViewProdEval.jpg] __'''Doe Production Evaluation'''__ [imageauto|Goat Detail View - Production Evaluation (Does)|{UP}GoatDetailViewProdEvalDoe.jpg] {top} ====3.8 - Type Eval==== The '''Type Eval''' view shows the [TypeEvaluation|USDA Type Evaluation] for the current animal. There are 2 separate tables of data. * The first contains a single record that reflects the base evaluation results for the type final score. The data displayed is different for bucks and does. * The second table contains type trait data displayed in the form of a horizontal bar chart with bars representing the value of the [PTA|PTAs] for each of the 13 linear traits. ** Columns at either side of the bar chart give descriptions of the range of each trait in physical terms. ** The buck type chart shows the trait average raw scores and reliabilities of the daughters used in the evaluation. ** The legend explains the color coding of values in the chart. __'''Buck Type Evaluation'''__ [imageauto|Goat Detail View - Type Evaluation (Buck)|{UP}GoatDetailViewTypeEval.jpg] __'''Doe Type Evaluation'''__ [imageauto|Goat Detail View - Type Evaluation (Doe)|{UP}GoatDetailViewTypeEvalDoe.jpg] {top} ===4 - Other Functions=== There are a couple of other functions on the '''Goat Detail''' page. {top} ====4.1 - Printing Goat Details==== The '''Format Page for Printing''' link is always present in the left pane. Clicking this link will open another browser window and fill it with a printer friendly version of the current animal's pedigree information. The '''Click to Print This Page''' link at the top of the new browser window will open a print dialog that will allow you to choose the printer. This printout should be correctly paginated so no data is cut off. {top} ====4.2 - Saving to [HelpMyGenetics|MyGenetics]==== The '''Save to My Genetics''' button will be displayed in the left pane only if you have an account and are currently logged in. Clicking this button will save the current animal as a favorite to your [HelpMyGenetics|MyGenetics] page. {top} ====4.3 - DNA and/or Collection on File==== This is an indicator that will appear just under the left-hand submenu if DNA and/or semen collection information is on file with ADGA. {top}
