The ability to try a breeding out without actually doing the deed is an important part of any serious breeding program. The
Planning menu option allows you to choose the sire and dam of your choice and then view the resulting pedigree, inbreeding details and
Estimated Transmitting Ability (ETA). Your planned breedings can be printed out or saved to
MyGenetics for future reference and comparison.
Top2 - Choosing a Sire and Dam¶
The first step in creating a planned breeding is to choose a sire and dam. When enter the
Planning page you will see the following filter.

This filter contains 2 special textboxes. Name or registration number matches are displayed with each keystroke. The more characters you type the shorter the list will get. You can type any part of the registered name or the numeric part of the registration number to narrow the list of animals returned.
Note: Since the application has to do a new query everytime you type a new character, the resulting list may be a little slow in coming back. Be patient and let it catch up before making a selection.

To select the animal of your choice either use your mouse to click or use the down arrow key. A successful selection will be displayed with the registration number followed by the registered name.

Once you have selected both the sire and dam, click the
Generate button to display the resulting planned breeding. If you have incorrectly selected or failed to select either a sire or dam, an error appropriate to the problem will be displayed. Fix the problem and try again.
Top3 - Results
The results of selecting a sire and dam will be displayed below the filters. Results include calculated
ETA and inbreeding detail in the left pane and planned pedigree on the right.

Top4 - Saving Results
Once results are displayed you have 2 options for saving the results: printing hardcopy or saving to
MyGenetics.
4.1 - Printing
There will be a link to
Format Page for Printing in the left pane of any planned breeding results. When you click this link, a new browser window will open with the results formatted properly for printing. There are page breaks inserted to keep results from being split across pages. Clicking the
Print this Page link in the upper left-hand corner of the formatted results page will open a familiar printer dialog. Simply choose your printer and wait for your output. You may close the formatted page once it's been printed.
4.2 - Saving to MyGenetics
If you have registered on the website and are currently logged in, you will also see a
Save to MyGenetics button at the bottom of the left-hand pane. Click this to save to your favorite planned breedings in your
MyGenetics. Choosing a saved planned breeding will save you having to re-enter the sire and dam again.
